Summary – VAT return UK

From 8 April 2021 HMRC made changes to some of the labels of the boxes on the VAT UK return.  This is to reflect that the UK is no longer in the EU and also to recognise the Northern Ireland Protocol changes.

This doesn’t change how the return is calculated and submitted.  You would process a VAT return as normal.

What are the new VAT return labels?

Changes have be made to the labels for boxes 2, 4, 8 and 9.  You can see the changes in the images below:

What do I need to do?

These changes don’t affect your VAT submissions.  However, we’d recommend you install Sage 50 Accounts v27.2 which implements these changes.  This also ensures your software is up to date and on the latest version.  The latest version includes the following improvements:

• Undo bank reconciliation with a few simple clicks
• Improved Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance and functionality
• New tax codes and changes relating to Brexit
• Improvements to apps and add-ons
• Backup and run check data with others logged in
• Add custom alerts to customers, suppliers and product records
