Are you using Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM reporting capabilities to the fullest?

Summary

Dynamics 365 CRM reporting capabilities is powerful and extensive but rests on 2 basic components:

  • A view or list of data
  • Applied to a chart

Creating a CRM excel template can extend this capability to the power that we all know and love in Excel.

How do I do this?

An excel template is created by a customiser or admin user in the Advanced Settings area. It is based on a view from an Entity.

Once you have the basic template, you can create additional sheets, with pivot tables and graphs to enhance your reporting.

Upload this as a new version of the Excel template into the CRM. This will now be available on the ribbon of the data view supporting this Excel template.

In our example, navigate to Opportunity and the view ‘Won Opportunities This Month’.

An Example Pivot Table Chart

Please note that this chart is a copy of one that can be created in the CRM itself

What are the pitfalls?

In fact, an Excel template could be used for any number of documents – from monthly reports to customer quotes.

However, this data is static at the point of extraction and needs to be treated as such. It is all too tempting to email this spreadsheet to a colleague.

Think about security and confidentiality.

Microsoft has a few things to say about this – follow the link for further information.
