Are you using Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM reporting capabilities to the fullest?

Dynamics 365 CRM reporting capabilities are powerful and extensive but rest on 2 basic components:

  • A view or list of data
  • Applied to a chart

Creating a CRM excel template can extend this capability to the power that we all know and love in Excel.

How do I do this?

An excel template is created by a customiser or admin user in the Advanced Settings area. It is based on a view from an Entity.

Once you have the basic template, you can create additional sheets, with pivot tables and graphs to enhance your reporting.

You can then upload this as a new version of the Excel template into the CRM. This will be available on the ribbon of the data view supporting this Excel template.

In our example, navigate to Opportunity and the view ‘Won Opportunities This Month’.

NOTE: This above chart is a copy of one that can be created in Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM itself.

Any considerations?

An Excel template can be used for any number of documents – from monthly reports to customer quotes.

However, this data is static at the point of extraction and needs to be treated as such.

Whilst it may be tempting to email this spreadsheet to a colleague – think about security and confidentiality!

Microsoft has a few things to say about this – follow the link for further information.
