Are you making use of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM integration with Microsoft Teams?

Summary

The good news is that Microsoft Teams and Dynamics 365 CRM are integrated, with further integration functionality on the way.

The Dynamics 365 CRM information available in Teams has been released – which we will explore with you now!

Note: The usage of Teams in Dynamics 365 CRM is coming! We’ll be updating you about this soon in a series of blogs.

Microsoft Teams and Dynamics 365 CRM working together

You can use Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM in 2 ways:

  • As an App which then replaces your browser use of CRM

  • By linking either a record or a view to a channel in Microsoft Teams.
This can be used where the team are collaboratively working on something, for example, an Opportunity. Another example might be that all members of a channel (or Team) need to keep their eye on the same list of high priority cases.

NOTE: When a user accesses Dynamics 365 CRM data within Teams, they are still bound by the Dynamics 365 CRM license and security role access that has been allocated to them.

In short, they cannot see more data or do more things in Teams than they can in the standard Dynamics 365 CRM browser version.

How to use Dynamics 365 CRM as an app in Teams

To add the app > in Teams select the ellipses (3 dots) on the left and find the ‘Dynamics 365’ app.

(You might have to go to the app store to find Dynamics 365 if you do not already have this downloaded.)

Once added, pin it by clicking on the right mouse button – You will then be invited to select the environment (test or production) and which app. This may be Sales Hub, or your specific app set up for your company.

How to use Dynamics 365 CRM on a channel for collaboration

When you are on a Teams channel, add a new tab (+ button to the right of you list of tabs) and then select Dynamics 365. Once again you might have to go to the store to download the app if not already added.

You are then presented with a choice:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Channel for Collaboration
  • Entity Selection which allows you to select a specific record (1 record) on that tab. This would be the shared Opportunity for instance.
You can amend data, upload files etc. as you would on your browser version.
Dynamics 365 Entity Selection
  • View Selection will present you with a list of views for an entity. You can then filter, sort and open records as you would on the browser version.
