Free up disk space with the Windows 10 disk clean-up tool

Summary

Microsoft Windows 10 comes with a computer maintenance tool designed to free up disk space on your machine’s local hard disk. The disk clean-up tool searches files that are no longer of any purpose and then deletes the selected redundant files.

This can help to improve the performance and speed of your machine.

How do I use the Windows 10 disk clean-up tool?

You can run the disk clean-up tool via the following method:

1. In the Windows 10 Search bar type “Disk clean-up” or type the command “cleanmgr.exe”

3. You can then accept the default option ticked and then select the “OK” button. This will run the deletion process on your local hard disk.

NOTE: Windows may take a few minutes to complete this process, especially if you have a large amount of data to remove.

Why should I do this?

Running the disk clean-up tool will help to free up space on your hard disk, which will create improved system performance. The tool will remove temporary files, system logs, previous Windows installations, and other files that are no longer needed, it even scans your recycle bin for files that need to be removed.

We recommend running Disk Clean-up at least once a month as it is a great maintenance task to ensure optimum system performance and keep your machine running smoothly.
