He did it!

On the 23rd April, GCC employee Mark Wedlake, took on the challenge of running the London Marathon 2023 and completed it in an incredible time of 4 hours and 41 minutes! To say we’re proud of Mark’s accomplishment is an understatement.

Mark ran the London Marathon in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. A truly fantastic cause, who have supported people dear to GCC employees.

Mark recalls the day….

“The London Marathon is a race I have wanted to do for a number of years now, and I was incredibly proud to run for Macmillan; a charity that supported my sister when she was ill and also continued to support me after she passed away last year.

Despite it raining at the start, and during a fair bit of the run, this is a day I will never forget!

The crowds are incredible throughout, and give you a lift when you need it especially towards the end – running down Birdcage Walk before Buckingham Palace, the crowds were 3 or 4 deep in places and made the final minutes feel better. A nice massage followed and a much needed rest.”
