How to remove an email address from the Autocomplete list in Outlook
18 January 2023
Summary
Outlook remembers every single email address you enter in the To, Cc, and Bcc fields of an email message. And when you enter the first few letters of a name or email address – Outlook automatically suggests contacts that match.
If you find Outlook is remembering mis-typed or old contacts, that you don’t wish to appear in the autocomplete list anymore, then you’ll be pleased to know that there is a relatively quick and simple way of getting rid of those entries.
How do I remove addresses from Autocomplete?
1. Create a new email message in Microsoft Outlook.
2. In the To field, enter the name or address you want to remove. As you enter the contact information, the autocomplete list will display the available matches.
3. Press the Down Arrow key to highlight the entry you want to delete from the list as displayed below.
4. Select Delete (the X to the right of the contact name). Alternatively, you can press the Delete key.
NOTE: ALL addresses from Outlook’s Autocomplete list can be cleared in one step.
This can be accomplished by navigating within Outlook to the File tab > Options > Mail category > Send messages section > Empty Auto-Complete List
