How to see other records in a “View” from within an open record in Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM

Summary

There’s lots of little productivity tools built into CRM that you might not be aware of, as they’re often released in the background, but when you’ve used them once they can really speed up your productivity.

How about being able to access other records within a View, from within an open record? In this blog we’ll explore how you can do this.

How do I do this?

Let’s work through an example to show how this can be done.

Below shows a fairly standard “My Open Opportunities” View with six records shown:

You can double click on a record to see the details of that specific record.

Once in the record, there is a button for “Open Record Set” in the top left hand corner – click on that and the magic happens:

You can now have the View active, at the same time as any of the individual selected records. This means you can work through a series of records, within a View, without having to switch between the individual records and the View.

All you need to do is select a new record from the navigation menu on the left hand side, as illustrated below:

Best of all, you can add a temporary filter to the View, using the new filtering experience, and this is maintained when using the Record Set functionality.

Additional Information

This should work for any record type on Dynamics CRM, including Activity records and should now be standard on your instance of CRM.
