More control over deferrals posting in Microsoft Business Central

The deferral posting dates control function allows you to control the time frame used to control the deferral posting.

This means you can set different posting control dates for deferrals transactions, as well as standard, non-deferral transactions.

How do I do this?

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you currently have control of which transaction dates are allowed when posting. This is either at a company-wide level, in general ledger settings, or at user specific level via user set up page.

The same philosophy has now been extended to include deferrals. You now have different posting date controls for deferral transactions and non-deferral transactions, as shown below:

  • For Company Wide Control, search in General Ledger Setup:

  • For User Specific Control, search in User setup:

What are the benefits of using this?

Most accounting controls are focused on the current accounting period. The deferrals functionality lets you automatically defer revenues and expenses over a specified schedule and multiple accounting periods, giving accountants more control over when people post deferrals.” – Source: Microsoft
