Understanding the Organisation Chart in Dynamics CRM

Summary

The customer’s organisation chart in Dynamics CRM will give you a quick visual overview of the people working at the company and their reporting lines.

It looks something like this:

The chart above shows Rene as the primary contact with Susan as her assistant. Thomas and John report to Rene with Sidney reporting to John.

The tile will show you the Contact’s Job Title – you can set a Tag such as ‘Decision Maker’ or ‘Influencer’ to help you better interpret the organisational structure.

Where can I find the organisation chart in Dynamics and how do I use it?

When in an Account record, find the Open org chart button, which is located in the ribbon.

On the left hand side, you will see list of Contacts related to this Account. Some might already be positioned in your Organisation Chart.

If you double click on a Contact record, a panel on the right opens with pertinent details. You can then create a Note on the Contact’s Timeline from this panel.

How do I amend the data in the organisation?

If you click the Edit chart button in the ribbon you can drag and drop Contacts into the chart (from the left panel) or move their reporting lines within the chart.

By clicking on the 3 dots on a Contact’s card, you will be presented with these options:

Alternatively, you can amend the tag by clicking the tag icon or the tagged value, as illustrated below.
