What are the best “secret” features in Microsoft Windows 10?

Summary

Microsoft Windows 10 comes with a number of “secret features”, that users will be surprised exist and are useful to your day-to-day work.

We will unpick some of these features that are known to only a few end users.

What are these secret features in Microsoft Windows 10?

In no particular order, here are the top three features in Microsoft Windows 10 that you may not know about, that we think you really should know about!

1. Shake to close all open Windows (apart from your Active Window)

‘One of the finest tricks within Windows 10 is to allow an end user to close all active Windows, except the Window they are working on.’

If your desktop is cluttered with open applications, you can minimise some of these open applications to make it easier to access the applications you’re working in, and speed up your computer.

All you need to do is click on the title bar of the application you want to remain active, then press the left-hand mouse button and move the Windows back and forth. You will see all the other windows minimizing and will just be left with one Window to work on.

2. Windows alternative “Start Menu”

Windows 10 has a traditional Start menu as a secret option. You may prefer to use the traditional Start menu if you are more familiar with it, prefer the navigation or just like the retro look of it.

If you wish to gain access to this menu option, simply right click on the Windows key or press the Windows key + X and you’ll be presented with the traditional Start Menu, as shown in the image below.

3. Flip your Windows Screen

A few of the Windows 10 tricks can be fun!

Did you know that by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Any arrow key, you can make your screen rotate? For example, by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Up arrow key, your screen will rotate upside down!

Rotating your screen may be handy for reading a document or viewing code in a more efficient way.

Hopefully, you have found these “secret” Windows 10 features useful.
